Plant-Based Diet Is Not Veganism!

A plant-based diet is perhaps the best strategy for your health and longevity and encompasses various dietary patterns from around the world.

A common misconception is to think that "plant-based" means "vegan." In reality, the term plant-based simply means that the foundation of your diet is plants – vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes (beans and lentils), nuts and other seeds.

A vegan diet would be a type of plant-based diet, but the same would be true for other eating plans that include meat, dairy, and seafood, as long as they have a robust plant component as their base.

A flexitarian diet, for example, is primarily vegetarian but allows people to eat moderate amounts of animal products. There are good reasons to adopt a plant-based diet, starting with health.

Eating flexitarian means choosing primarily plant foods, with moderate amounts of fish, poultry, dairy, and eggs, and small amounts of red meat. It's a way to reduce meat consumption without giving it up completely. No food is forbidden, although it's always ideal to limit added sugars and highly processed foods.

Ideally, micronutrient and macronutrient adjustments should be tailored to each individual's needs.
