A survey by the American Cancer Society indicates that one-third of cancer deaths are obesity-related. Considered a global epidemic, obesity is the second-largest preventable risk factor for cancer, surpassed only by tobacco use.

Obesity is associated with the development of various types of cancer. A publication by the National Cancer Institute (Inca), an agency linked to the Ministry of Health, states that reducing obesity levels in the country could prevent 19% of disease cases.

According to Inca, regular physical activity and a healthy diet can reduce oral, pharyngeal, and laryngeal tumors by 63%. Obesity control can lead to a 30% reduction in breast cancer incidence.

We need to increase the consumption of unprocessed foods such as fruits, fibers, greens, vegetables, and fish, and avoid foods rich in sugars and saturated fats, such as soft drinks and industrialized foods.

Obesity impacts cancer development differently in men and women. According to the "Saúde Brasil" report, developed by the Ministry of Health, obesity accounts for:

In females: · 29% of uterine cancer cases. · 26% of esophageal cancer cases. · 16% of kidney cancer cases. · 14% of pancreatic cancer cases. · 14% of breast cancer cases. · 1% of colorectal (large intestine) cancer cases.

In males: · 25% of pancreatic cancer cases. · 20% of esophageal cancer cases. · 10% of kidney cancer cases. · 8% of colorectal cancer cases.
